Virgin Atlantic offers clarity when it comes to baggage-related rules and regulations. The baggage allowance differs. It depends on the ticket type and the route of the flight. Virgin Atlantic checked baggage allowance-

Economy- 

  • The Caribbean, Transatlantic, and Nigerian route economy tickets include 1 checked baggage. The conditions below must be fulfilled.
  • Dimensions- The size should not be more than 35.5 in x 29.5 in x 16 in.
  • Weight- The weight must not exceed 51 lbs.
  • On South African, Australian, Asian, and Dubai routes, the weight limit is 44 lbs.

 

Premium economy-

  • On Transatlantic, Nigerian, and Caribbean routes, travelers can get 2 bags within the permissible limits. The following criteria apply.
  • The maximum dimension should not be more than 62 linear inches/157 cm, including the length, width, and height.
  • The weight should not exceed 50 lbs.
  • The weight limit is 44 lbs on South African, Australian, Asian, and Dubai routes.

 

Upper class-

  • On the Caribbean, Transatlantic, and Nigerian routes, you may get 3 bags, but the following conditions apply.
  • Maximum dimensions - 62 linear inches/157 cm.
  • Maximum weight - 70 lb/32 kg.
  •  66 lbs (30 kg) is permissible when the flight includes the Australian, Asian, South African, and Dubai routes.

 

Virgin Atlantic carry-on baggage allowance-

 

Economy and premium economy allowance-

One item of hand luggage is allowed. It must meet the following criteria-

  • The maximum dimensions should not be more than  22in x 14in x 9in.
  • Weight - up to 22 lbs.

 

Upper-class allowance-

2 cabin bags are allowed per passenger. The maximum weight and size limits are given below.

  • Weight- 26 lbs for a single bag or 36 lbs for both bags.
  • Size- 22in x 14in x 9in

 

Along with the allowance above, you can also get the items listed below in the cabin as an addition.

  • An umbrella or walking stick 
  • A small camera.
  • Duty-free goods.
  • A handbag, laptop bag/small backpack.
  • An overcoat or wrap.
  • Headphones 

 

An item that exceeds the permissible limits is oversized or overweight baggage. You may have to bear the fee accordingly. The details are given below.

 

  • Oversized bags- A bag larger than 90 x 75 x 43cm
  • Fee – 300 USD per bag. 
  • Bags sized more than 190 x 75 x 65cm will not be accepted. 

 

  • Overweight bags- a bag heavier than 23kg (Economy/Premium economy)
  • Fee- can be upto 200 USD. 
  • If the bag is heavier than 32 kg, it will not be accepted.
